Biography
Wigi was born to a bitter Hingashi-expellee father and an aloof
Lominsan sailor mother. It didn't do much for a happy upbringing,
to say the least. Still, Wigi took comfort in the occasional visit
from her grandmother, a bard who loved regaling Wigi with stories of eld.
Wigi's mother and father weren't neglectful, nor were they abusive, and they always tried to provide for Wigi. However, due to their busy lifestyle and constantly being on the move, Wigi grew up detached from any kind of real community. They subsisted off of gil earned from selling goods at various Eorzean ports — a living that was stable enough, but taxing. As she aged out of childhood and into adolescence, Wigi grew sick of the routine.
It was on the day of the Calamity that Wigi and her parents engaged in a particularly ugly argument — one that would end in her storming off, and the other two searching for her. That coming night saw the release of Bahamut and her parents among the innumerable casualties. The home they had recently moved to in Moraby Drydocks was spared in near totality… meaning that if Wigi never left, they would have remained in the household and lived.
When the dust settled following the Calamity, Wigi got by as a traveling busker and storytelling orator, performing the stories told to her as a child. She found herself barely getting by. Wigi's earnings were meager, only ever just enough for a meal or lodging, and never both. And though she made the occasional effort to visit her ailing grandmother, she spent the better part of her days wandering in solitude. It's during a brief stint in Gridania where Wigi is suddenly gifted with the Echo. This sees her promptly recruited into the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, and through her deeds she is dubbed Eorzea's “Warrior of Light”.

Personality
'Tis only natural to be afraid. To hesitate. [...]
If ever you should falter, remember this: no one,
however powerful, is immune to the whisperings of doubt
and despair. Do not give in to them, but do not deny them either.
—Minfilia
Fearful
Before becoming the Warrior of Light, Wigi would always
choose to run from her troubles. Whenever things got too
difficult or real, she left, and the people in her life
were left to suffer. It's this fear and avoidance that's central
to Wigi's motivations throughout the story.
Wigi is pretty desperately fearful of dying. When confronting any kind of threat she constantly suppresses the urge to cut loose and run, and is even quicker to suggest an alternative that doesn't involve her fighting anything — but she still fights. It's a contradiction she internalizes as being really immoral and shameful, but funnily enough, it's actually just demonstrating courage.

Cynical
Wigi lets her distrust lead her into assumptions. She
"tells it how it is," or rather, how she perceives it.
She operated in this narrow mindset for a long time,
given how bleak Eorzea became following the Calamity.
The contempt that she has for herself gets turned outward as contempt for
other people — when she can't trust herself, she can't trust other
people, and it makes it really hard for her to be close with anyone.
If you expect the worst, you can never be disappointed. It's a protective sentiment, if a bit apathetic: if you expect the worst, you won't put in your all. Prior to ARR, Wigi led a very noncommittal, meandering sort of life. Ironically, in being so caught up trying to protect it at all costs, she denied herself the things making it worthwhile.

Quick to Anger
Wigi is often too biting, and worse still, is pretty quick to anger.
This bristling obviously comes from a place of insecurity, but it's
also a survival mechanism that she feels comfortable falling back on.
In scary situations where she needs to keep herself alive, she's most
prone to lapse into this behavior... and unfortunately, those situations
come up a lot. She can get pretty sour the more stressed out she gets.
She really does care about those around her, but her deep fear and distrust make her lash out at those closest to her. It's really difficult to temper her anger when she's scared and distressed. In later years she more or less grows out of her temperamental demeanor, but still freely expresses her signature irritation if something annoys her.

Self-orientated
Wigi has shown to be fairly self-preservative to the point of being
mainly concerned with her own feelings rather than the feelings of
others around her — it's arguably her worst trait. Beyond how difficult
it makes it for her to connect with others, it also results in her being
entirely unable to change her own self-perception.
Wigi's very resistant to accepting others' praise and feels that their care for her is misplaced, meaning that she can't move past her faults and is resigned to viewing herself very poorly — in turn, this lowers her self-esteem and leaves her extremely defensive. It's an awful cycle that takes a long while for her to break, and she only ends up doing so when she learns to fully open herself to others.

Guilty
Wigi is very suddenly thrust into a position of power and influence.
She quickly finds herself struggling to reconcile her bad traits with
the public image that Alphinaud and the Scions are trying to cultivate
for her. Wigi's self-esteem remains painfully low despite all the good
she's managed to accomplish, perceiving her motivations as pointedly unheroic compared to those around her.
Time wears you down, aye... but solitude eats away at
you. It was this close to finishing me off. But as bad
as it got, and as empty as I felt... I can't even begin to
imagine what it must be like for Emet-Selch. All of which
is a long way of saying: don't make a choice that leaves
you alone. Nothing is worth that — especially not eternity.
—Ardbert
Till now I have traveled alone, but as I recently learned — a journey is better shared.

Distant
A practical girl who lives a hard life, Wigi knows how to survive and is
reluctant to open herself to others. She begins the story counterdependent
and refusing attachment: the loss of her parents and her perceived culpability
for their fate made her distant and aloof with others, and so, constant withdrawal
brought Wigi a lot of comfort in her darkest days.
Wigi: Uh... Kupo?
Thancred: That will seem a lot less amusing when we are forced to kill them.
Playful
Wigi's generally pretty jocular around those she's comfortable with,
but on the flip side, she falls back on acting facetious when she's
uncomfortable. Her mean streak also extends to her sense of humor,
as she really enjoys poking fun at others just to get a rise out of them.
Wigi's an incorrigible flirt, bordering on inappropriate at times. She had a pretty active dating life before she took up the mantle of Eorzea's protector. Most of the time, though, she just has fun being a tease.

Physiology
Despite having a Hyur mother and Lalafellin father,
Wigi appears full Lalafell rather than a split hybrid.
That being said, her Hyur genes do manifest in subtle ways:
she's a few inches taller than an average Lalafell, and her
Plainsfolk ears appear smaller in length than what's usual.
The Echo
Wigi's Echo grants her a preternatural awareness of imminent danger, making her
extremely quick to react to anything that intends to harm her.
It's compounded by her Plainsfolk physiology, as their ears grant them incredible
hearing, able to detect the slightest movements of fauna — this sensitivity is
only further amplified and enhanced by the Echo.
Fighting Style
Wigi is extremely quick and deft, owing it in parts to
being a Plainsfolk, having the Echo, and already being innately paranoid.
The thing is, the Echo doesn't necessarily enhance her constitution
(most times), and so Wigi functions more akin to a glass cannon
rather than a force with much staying power. Even when factoring in the Echo,
Wigi's physical strength leaves much to be desired.
In combat, she makes up for that weakness with her cleverness
and talent with the bow.

Bard
Wigi was already a great shot prior
to receiving the Echo, but after she taps
into its power she becomes an uncannily precise marksman.
Wigi boasts a profound sense of musicality: she enjoys performing,
has mastered an impressive amount of instruments, and can sing
in perfect pitch. Wigi's jobstone was a gift from her grandma,
a fellow Bard. Her respect for the arts is largely in part to her
grandma's similar reverence.

Dancer
Wigi's talent as a performer extends to her
dancing skills, to the point where Dancer becomes her more
casual and "for fun" secondary class. Her dancing style is
loose and freeform, invoking dancehall and club dancing.

Machinist
Wigi's aptitude for ranged combat certainly isn't limited
to the bow and arrow. Though her skills as a sharpshooter
aren't as honed or developed as her talent in archery, Wigi is still
generally skilled in hitting her mark with a firearm.
Between learning to operate the Machinist's supplementary
gadgets and spending time with the Ironworks crew, Wigi
has become somewhat of a grease monkey — an aquired skillset
that sees her dragged back to the Redbill's Hideout on
occassion.

Warrior
Following a tounge-in-cheek suggestion to "find an outlet for
her outbursts of rage," Wigi decides to take up the axe — a development
that surpises no one more than herself. In fact, this "anger
management" ciriculum bore little resemblance to the clinical
treatment she'd expected. Although she doesn't use Warrior
in combat often (and quite frankly, simply isn't strong enough
to utilize it effectively), she still enjoys it as a means of letting loose
every once in a while.
